Join Our Team as a CDL Class A Truck Driver / Shop Float!

Full-Time: Monday-Friday, 1st Shift, 6:30am-3:00pm

Job Summary: In this unique position that straddles both the Plant and Delivery departments, you'll be at the heart of our operations. You'll wear multiple hats, overseeing metal processing and distribution while also handling transportation logistics. It's a role that calls for a practical knowledge of our operations and materials, making it perfect for those ready to embrace a diverse work environment.

CDL Class A Driver Job Functions:

  • Get behind the wheel of commercial vehicles weighing over 26,001 lbs. to make sure merchandise, materials, and equipment reach their destinations promptly.
  • Navigate the open road, performing safety checks, and ensuring secure cargo transport.
  • Be a master at truck maneuvering during loading and unloading.
  • Take charge of daily vehicle inspections, ensuring roadworthiness and safety.
  • Keep a digital diary of your daily activities with electronic logging devices.
  • Report any traffic incidents, accidents, or vehicle issues to our dedicated supervisory team.
  • Decode bills of lading and manifests for mission details.
  • Be meticulous with load-related documentation, ensuring everything is complete and accurate.
  • Safety first! Adhere to safety protocols and processes.
  • Overnight travel may be on the agenda.
  • Roll with any other tasks and responsibilities assigned by our fantastic management team.

Shop Float Job Functions:

  • Dive into basic tasks with enthusiasm, following detailed instructions.
  • Be the muscle behind inventory movement, customer orders, material handling, and warehouse upkeep.
  • Stock inventory locations with received items.
  • Fulfill orders based on work orders or shipping instructions.
  • Ensure material is tagged, documented, and stored correctly.
  • Skillfully operate equipment like forklifts, side loaders, or cranes.
  • Drive yard trucks for loading and unloading.
  • Maintain a tidy and safe workspace.
  • Sort, organize, and spot-check inventory.
  • Report any issues or irregularities to your trusty supervisor.
  • Keep the shelves stocked and materials organized.
  • Occasionally, hop behind the wheel (non-DOT truck) for local deliveries or parts pick-ups.
  • Champion safety and quality standards in everything you do.
  • And as always, tackle any other duties assigned by our supportive management team.

Job Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Whether you're fresh on the scene or have up to 5 years of experience, we value your potential and a blend of education and experience.
  • If you bring 2 years of commercial driving experience with relevant cargo, that's a bonus!
  • A High School diploma/GED is a plus.
  • Secure a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for the assigned vehicle type.
  • Rev up your engines for a successful road test.
  • Ensure your insurability aligns with our company's standards.
  • Embrace FMCSA drug and alcohol clearinghouse requirements.
  • Master all driver qualification requirements under Federal regulations (49 CFR part 391).
  • Keep your Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in top shape, meeting Federal regulations and our company's high-quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean record with no drug violations in the past 5 years, and if needed, provide proof of completing a certified SAP program for older violations.
  • Have a basic understanding of laws, government regulations, and agency rules related to interstate transportation.
  • Read and follow written instructions with ease.
  • Rock basic measurement and arithmetic skills, helping you handle measurements like a pro.
  • Build strong relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers/vendors.
  • Make solid decisions based on knowledge, experience, and judgment.
